New Medicines Service

Starting on a new medicine can be daunting. We can support you by offering either telephone calls or face to face consultations to ensure you are getting the best out of your new medicine.

Benefits of this service

  • A qualified health professional to answer any queries that you may not have been able to ask your GP
  • Support available to ensure adherence to your medicines
  • Help direct you in the right course if you are experiencing issues with your new medicines, and when a referral to the doctor is necessary

How can we help?

In England, around 15 million people have a long-term condition (LTC) and the optimal use of appropriately prescribed medicines is vital to the management of most LTCs.

It is estimated that between 30 and 50 per cent of prescribed medicines are not taken as recommended. It is therefore clear that non-adherence to appropriately prescribed medicines poses a health problem of major relevance to the NHS.

Research has shown that pharmacists can successfully intervene when a medicine is newly prescribed, with follow ups, to improve adherence and management of long-term term conditions.
